Paediatric urology deals with surgical problems of the kidneys, ureters, bladder and genital organs in children. Many of these problems are present from birth and are often first noticed by parents — a weak urine stream, a swelling in the groin or scrotum, repeated urinary tract infection, or an abnormal opening of the urine passage.
Early assessment matters: timely surgery protects kidney function, prevents infection and gives the best cosmetic and functional result.
Conditions we treat:
- Hypospadias and epispadias
- Undescended testis (orchidopexy)
- Hydrocele and inguinal hernia
- Pelvi-ureteric junction (PUJ) obstruction / hydronephrosis
- Posterior urethral valves (PUV)
- Vesico-ureteric reflux (VUR)
- Bladder exstrophy
- Urinary stones in children
- Phimosis and circumcision-related problems
- Torsion testis
- Disorders of sex development (DSD)
When to see a paediatric urologist:
- Repeated urinary tract infection or fever with burning urine
- Weak or dribbling urine stream
- Swelling or empty scrotum
- Hydronephrosis found on antenatal or postnatal ultrasound
- Abnormal position of the urine opening
